if you are going to events, please remember to wear sunscreen. really slather that shit on. especially if you're going in a revealing outfit or nude or something. don't forget your back, ears, part and tummy. consider bringing your sunscreen with for your friends and community members who forgot it.
drink water. bring water with you. if you're drinking alcohol, drink water with it. consider bringing extra water for community members who may need it.
remember that "we keep us safe" means protecting ourselves and each other from 'phobes and cops, but it also means keeping each other safe from heatstroke and sunburn. take care of yourselves and each other out there!
edit: if you are newly on spiro or snris you are likely more heat sensitive now than you are used to be! take extra water! (thanks to okieokie on bluesky for pointing this out.)
Adding this to remind people that you should add sunscreen to your armpits if they are not clothed (light bouncing off the ground still has harmful uv rays) and to bring easy to eat snacks.
bring a big bottle of water and just carry it around and take drinks from it constantly
if the water starts making you nauseated that is a sign of sunstroke and you should get out of the sun and maybe consume some salt
we learned this the hard way a long time ago. learn from our mistakes, there's no need to make your own! :)
One of the symptoms of heat-related illness is impaired judgment. Assume you will not know you are afflicted — if you do notice it, it'll be when you already need to get out of the sun and into a cooler environment.
Look out for each other. Check in with whomever you came with periodically. Do any of them seem unusually tired or out of it? Maybe suggest a break in the shade over there. And before the event, ask them to look out for you the same way.
You may want to bring small towels or washcloths you can soak with water and use to cool off.
Learn how to tell whether someone is suffering heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Heat exhaustion is grounds for a cooling-off break. Heatstroke is a medical emergency.
there is a really good post on sensory-friendly sunscreen recommendations here if that's a concern!
my pride prep is almost the same as hike prep. pockets full of salty snacks, a backpack full of water bottles, sunscreen applied 30 mins before sun exposure and reapplied every 2 hours, more often if you're sweating. make sure to cover blemishes, scars, and acne/pimples too!!
